Weather in Hawaii

The islands are a collection of diverse micro-climates due to its mountain peaks, valleys, and coastal plains. With only 2 seasons—fall (Hooilo), November-April, and summer (Kau), May-October—temperatures are fairly constant at sea level and weather consistent year-round. Daytime temperatures average about 78° F in fall and about 85° F in summer. Evenings are about 10° F cooler. The near-shore water temperatures average about 74° F in fall and 80° F in summer. Temperatures are lower at higher elevations. Most rain falls in the mountains and valleys on the windward (northeastern) side of the islands creating Hawaii’s lush tropical environment. We’ll spend most of our time on the leeward (south) side of the islands. Weather is localized so if it’s raining in one spot there’s likely a sunny spot just around the coast.

Packing Tips

Our dress code, including the dinner hour, is casual. Our lifestyle emphasizes both elegance and comfort. Bring the clothes you feel most relaxed in and ones you will be comfortable wearing during activities and excursions. Throughout your voyage, there’ll be opportunities for kayaking, snorkeling, and shore side exploring. Mask and snorkel sets are provided by the boat, but you may be more comfortable in your own gear. To help you along, here are some suggestions:

Layering

It's a good idea to pack several thinner layers you can easily peel off rather than one thick layer. Layers effectively allow you to make easy adjustments to varying weather and temperatures.

Pants / Shorts

Our style is casual so jeans, khakis, or whatever is most comfortable is acceptable at any time. Pack plenty of shorts, and temperatures can vary so pack at least one pair of pants or convertible hiking pants for possible chilly weather. The yacht has rain pants available in several sizes on board for your use while kayaking or hiking, if necessary.

Shirts / Sweaters

Casual shirts such as polo’s and t-shirts will come in most handy. You may want a sweater or sweatshirt for possible windy evenings on deck.

Jackets

A warm jacket may be needed evenings or traveling to higher elevations and a rain/wind jacket should suffice for other days. Slickers are provided on board to supplement your outerwear, but to guarantee the best fit, we recommend bringing your own.

Hats / Gloves / Scarf

A brimmed hat that protects you from the sun will be handy. If you bring paddling gloves for kayaking, look for ones with enough dexterity that you don't have to remove them every time you want to access your dry bag or take a photograph.

Footwear

Comfortable sneakers, sturdy walking shoes, or day hikers, and a pair of warm socks are necessary. Water socks for snorkeling are always good, and a pair of water sandals like Keens or Chacos for the Halawa Valley hike are recommended.

Other Items

Bring a bathing suit for swimming and your own wet suit if you foresee yourself needing one (we provide a wet suit ONLY for the night snorkel with Manta Rays). A long sleeve rashguard is helpful for light coverage while snorkeling and to provide some extra protection from UV rays. A small backpack comes in handy when exploring off the yacht, and sunglasses are also a good idea.

Binoculars

There are several binoculars on board for your use, but you may be more comfortable bringing a pair that you are already familiar with.

Camera

Don’t forget to pack extra memory cards. You’ll likely take more photos than you ever imagined. And extra batteries or your battery charger. You may want to store your camera in a waterproof case and bring heavy-gauge resealable plastic bags as extra protection.

Label Your Personal Items

Putting your name on personal items is always a good idea (binoculars, camera, water bottle, boots, hat, backpack, etc.)

Stateroom Amenities

We provide each stateroom with two robes, hair dryer, alarm clock, umbrellas, towels and toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash).
